Rotherham United Community Sports Trust have collaborated with the National Citizen Service and mental health charity YoungMinds in an attempt to raise some much needed funds and awareness regarding the subject of mental health for young people.

Volunteers from the NCS programme will be on hand around AESSEAL New York Stadium ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Oxford United, with all proceeds from any donations made going towards mental health charities.

Popular club mascot Miller Bear will also be getting involved, with young fans encouraged to try their hand at our exciting ‘name the teddy’ game, where supporters will be given the opportunity to pick a name for a Rotherham United themed teddy bear!

Players from the Millers first team have also been keen to get involved and will be proudly sporting NCS warm-up jerseys prior to the crucial Sky Bet League One game with Yellows.

More young people than ever before need support for their mental health and accessing that support quickly can make a critical difference to those in question, which is a key aim of support charity YoungMinds.

Their mission statement is ‘You Matter’ as they attempt to reach out to as many young people as possible and reassure them that no matter what they are going through, they deserve help.

“We’re delighted to be teaming up with the wonderful teams at NCS and YoungMinds to help spread a very important message surrounding the mental health of young people,” Head of Community Jamie Noble told The New York Way.

“The last few years have presented many challenges for everyone, but one group that can sometimes be overlooked are young people.

“Here at Rotherham United, we consider ourselves to be more than just a football club and we want to help improve the lives of as many people within our community as we can.

“If spreading this message can help just one person it will have been a fantastic success and I would encourage everyone coming down to the stadium today to get involved in anyway they can.”

NCS is a space where young people can become world and work ready and raise their voice to make a positive difference together. Supporters wanting to find out more can do so in this matchday programme or at information stalls located around AESSEAL New York Stadium this afternoon.
