It is getting more and more difficult to find the appropriate superlatives to describe the Mattress Online Man of the Match performances of Rotherham United’s super Swede, Viktor Johansson.
His flawless display in goal was the bedrock of Leam Richardson’s side’s 2-1 home success over Millwall on Easter Monday with Johansson’s string of fine saves still making the headlines despite a sumptuous strike from Seb Revan and some superb improvisation work from Charlie Wyke at the other end.
A flying first half stop to keep Zian Flemming at bay marked his first notable involvement but it was a series of unfathomable saves in the second that defined the outcome of the game.
Point blank saves from set piece headers were on the agenda either side of a ridiculous block which left Michael Obafemi bewildered that he hadn’t rippled the back of the net from around three yards out.
The Swede was simply stunning.
While all of the above denotes his fantastic contribution in goal, it is important to point to a huge collective team effort which saw Seb Revan, Hakeem Odoffin and Andy Rinomhota nominated for the award alongside Johansson.
It was the popular goalkeeper who scooped the Easter Monday award with 50.5% of the 725 votes cast by supporters following the game.
